Frequently Asked Questions

Information Sessions

  • What is an Information Session?
    • An information session is when an organization schedules a time to visit campus and present information about their company, careers, and/or professional development topics with students.
  • What should I expect?
    • Most information sessions last between 1-2 hours and a company representative provides a presentation as well as leaves time for questions from attendees. Sessions are typically conducted in a classroom or in the student center.
  • How do I prepare?
    • Research who the organization is and what type of career/internship opportunities they offer. There is usually no dress code required but remember that this is your first impression. Career Services recommends business casual attire. It is also a good idea to have copies of your resume to give to the representatives.

    • To sign up for an on campus interview login to Handshake. Under the “Jobs” tab at the top, in the upper right, select “On-Campus Interviews” to view upcoming interview opportunities.
  • What is the process for interview selection?
    • Employers create timelines depending on the type of interview schedule they select. The two interview types are described below
      • Pre-Select: Employers post a position, receive submitted resumes, and select those individuals they wish to interview. Selected individuals are notified via email and instructed to login to Handshake to reserve an interview time. Resume submission deadlines are set based on the employers’ interview dates.
      • OPEN: Employers allow individuals to select an interview time on a first come, first serve basis without being pre-screened by a resume.
  • How do I prepare?
    • Most interviews take place at ECU Career Services at 701 East 5th Street. There is no student parking so plan your travel accordingly. Plan to arrive a few minutes early and check in at the front desk. After the interview, thank the recruiter and ask for a business card so you can send a thank you note.
